Edward Roscoe Doss, a lifelong Hardin, Missouri, resident, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Missouri.

Ed lived dedicated and steadfast, being granted an earthly life of 83 years, nine months, and 20 days.

Ed was born May 26, 1936, in Hardin, the son of Neil and Irene (Franklin) Doss.

He attended elementary school in Hardin and graduated from Hardin-Central High School. Ed enlisted with the United States Army and was proud to serve his country in 1960 and1961, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During this time, he married the love of his life, Sarah Francis Bylieu, at the Rev. Johnson’s home in Hardin. This union was blessed with a son, James Edward. Ed had deep roots in Hardin, and this is where he and Sarah decided to raise their son together. Sarah survives of the home.

Ed was a farmhand, working for Westfall Farms. He was also employed at Lyon’s Diecasting in Buckner, Missouri, as a machinist.

Ed was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, and fishing in the river and the many water holes that Hardin has to offer. He was very talented and spent extra time working with his hands, and he began restoring old guns and knives, and refurbished some respectable pieces. In the quiet times, he would sit down with a Louis L’Amour Western novel. Ed and Sarah did not have a daughter, and Crystal became this to them. He loved to tease and aggravate her, and Crystal would return it with great humor. Ed loved telling stories of his childhood and all the sibling rivalries. He reminisced about the trying times and growing up during the Depression, and realizing they were resilient, and he only had good memories of his family.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah; a son, James “Jim” Edward Doss, and his wife, Crystal, of Hardin; five brothers, Carl Doss, David Doss of Richmond, Kenny Doss of Norborne, Tom Doss and his wife, Maxine, of Richmond, and Johnny Doss; a sister, Maxine Schreckhise; two grandchildren, Emily Thaller and her husband, Jordan, and Hunter Doss; and two great-grandchildren, Paisley Thaller and Samuel Thaller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bertha Flewelling; and a sister-in-law, Viki Doss.

A private family service and burial will commence at Lavelock Cemetery, Hardin, Missouri.

As an expression of sympathy and in memory of Ed, Memorial Contributions may be made to Lavelock Cemetery. They may be left at or mailed to Foster Funeral Chapels, 201 S. Main St., Carrollton, MO 64633.
