Eddie Harris

Eddie Harris peacefully departed this life on Sept. 5, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by love, in the home of his nephew, Richard and Pamela Harris, in Kansas City. He faced liver cancer with remarkable courage. Born April 26, 1943, in New Orleans, Eddie was a proud native of the Crescent City, deeply influenced by its rich culture and vibrant spirit.

Eddie was the cherished youngest son of Ethel Bastain and Joseph Harris, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brothers, Henry Harris Sr. and George Harris; and his sister, Rosalie Harris-Johnson. He also mourned the loss of his nephew, Charles Johnson; and niece, Wanda Harris.

Eddie is lovingly remembered by his surviving family, including his nephews, Henry Harris Jr., Richard L. Harris and Kevin Johnson; and nieces, Agnes Harris and Stacey Johnson.

Known for his warmth, humor and impeccable sense of style, Eddie was a dear friend and confidant to many. He relished sharing stories from his life, enjoyed gospel music, and had a passion for watching football and golf. Fondly referred to as “Shaky” by some, his presence brought joy to everyone around him.

Eddie will be laid to rest at Providence Memorial Park in Metairie, La., with a private graveside memorial service to follow at a later date.

As we cherish his memory, may he find peace, embodied by his sister’s favorite verse from the Bible, Psalm 121:8: “The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”
