Dwight Wayne Pettus, 78, of Orrick passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Liberty Hospital. Dwight was born Dec. 16, 1945, in Kansas City, the son of Glenn Thomas and Alwilda (Thompson) Pettus. Survivors include his significant other, Delorise Bush of Richmond; brother, Don Pettus of Lee’s Summit; sister, Judith (Roger) Hunt of Leawood, Kan.; two nephews, Craig A. (Bea) Pettus of Orrick and Greg Hunt of Prairie Village, Kan.; and niece, Kelly (Joseph) Miller of Lenexa, Kan. Several greatnephews Dwight Pettus

and nieces also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Todd Kendall Pettus; and sister-in-law, Carol Ann Pettus.

Dwight was reared and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Excelsior Springs High School. After high school, he attended college in Warrensburg, then the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Dwight proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, then returned to the family farm.

He was a member of Todd’s Chapel Church, west of Richmond.

Dwight was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Royals and Chiefs. He loved to fish and travel, especially with his family; together they went on several cruises. Dwight also enjoyed time spent with his companion, Delorise.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Todd’s Chapel Church or the donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, April 11, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 and interment in Richmond Memory Gardens.
