Derek Goodall

Derek Duane Goodall, 35, of Blue Springs passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia. Derek was born Jan. 9, 1990, in North Kansas City, the son of Clifford “C.E.” and Lura Renea (Hughes) Goodall. Survivors include his father, C.E. Goodall of the home; brother, Damon Goodall (Amber Green) of Blue Springs; and sister, Dalane Goodall (Ronnie Slagle) of Blue Springs. His three nephews, Jace Tyler Goodall, Asher Scott Goodall and Liam Mathew Goodall; niece, Adalyn Renea Goodall; three uncles, Dean (Laurie) Rogers, Steve (Theresa) Rogers and Donald (Terri) Goodall; and a host of cousins also survive.

In addition to his mother, Lura Renea Goodall, Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold Leonard and Patricia “Pat” Louise Goodall; and his maternal grandparents, Gilbert “Gib” Monroe and Donna Darlene Hughes.

Derek was raised and educated in Richmond, graduating with the Richmond High School class of 2008. After high school, he worked at various jobs until 2012, when he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and faced multiple complications.

From that moment forward, Derek showed remarkable courage and resilience. Despite countless hospital stays across the country and being told hundreds of times he would not survive the night, he continued to defy the odds. His strong will and determination to live were nothing short of heroic.

When his health allowed, Derek found joy in the things he loved most – fishing; hunting; playing video games, especially “Call of Duty”; and spending time with his family.

Through all of life’s challenges, he was never alone. He had the unwavering love and support of his family and friends. Also by his side through it all was his loyal Chihuahua, Blaze, who never left him and brought him comfort on even the hardest days.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Derek Goodall Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the services at noon, with Rev. Aaron Manning officiating. Burial was in Richmond Memory Gardens.
