Marty Estenbaum

David Martin “Marty” Estenbaum, 58, of Richmond died Sunday, March 5, 2023, at his home. Martin was born on Sept. 3, 1964, in Richmond, the son of David H. and Joan (Haynes) Estenbaum. Survivors include: his son, Brennen Estenbaum; daughter, Brooke (Michael) Harrison; grandchildren, Michael Harrison and Henry Harrison; sisters, Vicki (Ken) Holland and Debbie (Emmet) Leabo; nephews and nieces, Matthew Holland, Micheal Holland, Sara Holland and Heather Hunt; and great-nephews and nieces, Christian Holland, Aiden Holland, Elizabeth Holland, Amelia Holland, Eli Holland and Florence Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Marty didn’t know a stranger. He was a good friend to many and always helpful. He was a hard worker and had a great sense of humor. Marty’s quick wit and sarcastic remarks would always get a good laugh. His sense of humor helped him and his caregivers, Ramah Gray and Rona Estenbaum, through the rough days of ALS.

As a child of 4 or 5 years old, he would begin helping his dad with his freight business. He worked for Astro Truck lines for almost 32 years until 1996. He worked a few other jobs through high school and after 1996.

Marty and Rona had a daughter, Brooke; and a son, Brennen. From the first day his daughter was born, Brooke had him wrapped around her little finger, and he loved every minute of it. Marty was happy and proud to be a grandpa to Michael and Henry Harrison.

Marty loved hunting, fishing and riding his Harley. He loved playing golf, especially with his son Brennen.

Marty liked to travel. He rode to Florida on his Harley; went on a cruise with his friends; visited his sisters Vicki and Debbie in Kentucky, Indiana and California; and went with friends to Colorado. Marty loved living at the farm; mowing; and tinkering on cars, trucks, and just about anything.

Marty received excellent care during this past year of ALS. The nurses, caseworkers and hospice staff were a fantastic support system for Marty, the family, Ramah and Rona.

This past week was especially hard. The hospice staff, especially Kathy (also a close friend) helped make his passing without pain, surrounded by family and friends, and he is at peace. Marty was loved by many and he will be deeply missed.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The ALS Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main Street-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 12, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., with services to follow at 2. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.

Fellowship and refreshments to follow burial at Richmond Christian Union Church.
