David Arnold Griffing, 79, of Richmond, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 27, 2021, at his home.

David was born on Aug. 3, 1941, in Ray County, the son of Jesse Arnold and Laveta Mae (Cox) Griffing.  He was first united in marriage to Brenda Sue Medlock of Wood Heights on May 24, 1961; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2009.  He was then united in marriage to Glenda “Jeanne” Winders of Richmond on Nov. 10, 2010; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Michael D. (Angela) Griffing of Excelsior Springs and Keith Griffing of Lee’s Summit; daughter, Mary Kay (Russ) Higginbotham of Grain Valley; three stepsons: Blaine (Stacy) Nolker of Hardin, Brett (Jill) Nolker of Reidsville, and Brandon Nolker of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren: Mackenzie Wilkerson, Samantha Griffing, LaQuisha Griffing, Ian Davolt, Megan Wahweotten, and Melanie Davolt, Lucas Nolker,  Avery Nolker, and Kelsey Nolker; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Bob (Dorothy) Griffing of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son, William Alan Griffing, brother, Alan Wayne Griffing, and sister, Mary Alice Earring.

David was reared and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Richmond High School.  After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  David worked for 42 years for Ford, retiring as a millwright.  Prior to working at Ford, he worked for Arm Co Steel and several other companies.  He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local #249.  After retirement, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle.  David enjoyed carpentry and building things.  He liked to lend a helping hand to others on their projects.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M., with services to follow at 2:00 P.M.  Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.  Please remember to share your memories of David with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
