Connie Marie Greer, 81, of Richmond, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Valley Manor and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs. 

Connie was born on Sept. 17, 1941, in Kansas City, the daughter of Woodrow Lee and Gladys Marie (Reynolds) Battagler.  She was united in marriage to William “Garry” Greer of Orrick on May 31, 1968; he survives of the home. 

Survivors include two daughters, Michele (David) Williams of Lee’s Summit and Erin (Chris) Schreier of Excelsior Springs; five grandchildren, Kylee Boyer, Corbynn Boyer, Noland Boyer, Willa Schreier, Norah Schreier; three step-grandchildren, Logan Schreier, Dominique Williams, and Alyssa Williams; great-granddaughter, Gentry Holt; brother, Louis (JoAnn) Battagler of Orrick; and sister, Judy (Roger) Bruning of Orrick. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Connie was reared and educated in Orrick, graduating from the Orrick High School in the class of 1959.  After high school, she attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where she received her bachelor’s and master’s in education. Connie would spend the next 35 years as an Elementary School Teacher. She taught for 10 years in the Excelsior Springs School District and 25 years in the Orrick School District. Connie was named Outstanding Educator in America for the 1973-1974 school year at the Elkhorn Elementary School as a Kindergarten Teacher. Children were a big part of her life and after she retired from teaching, she babysat her grandchildren and spent her time going to their activities and events. Connie enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and raising her goats. She was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Orrick Elementary School or Southpoint Cemetery.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085. 

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., with services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Southpoint Cemetery, Orrick.
