Christopher Michael “Big Swaff” Swafford, 40, of Hardin died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at North Care Hospice House in Kansas City. Chris was born on April 17, 1982, in Richmond, the son of Ricky and Lola (Robinson) Swafford. He was united in marriage to Sherri Smith of Excelsior Springs on April 20, 2022. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include: his parents; one son, Kameron Swafford of the home; three daughters, Jenna Swafford of Warsaw, Kaydance Swafford of the home and Isabella Swafford of the home; one sister, Kimberly Tapia of Excelsior Springs; and 12 nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Chris was reared and educated in Hardin. He worked at Crete Carrier as a service writer. Chris was Facebook famous, touching many lives across the country with his comedic personality. He was a member of The Warriors Motorcycle Club. He always did things to the fullest, unless it was housework. He loved to fish but was plagued by the inability to actually catch a fish.

He enjoyed trying new things with his wife, kids and family. He always had your back and would speak his mind. He loved the Chiefs and Royals. The thing Chris loved the most was his wife and kids.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Christopher Swafford Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at the Skiles Event Center in Richmond.
