Charles Cassity

Charles Leroy Cassity, 85, of Rayville passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his home. Charles was born on Nov. 25, 1937, in Browning, the son of Cecil and Lois (Haley) Cassity. He was united in marriage to Charlene Rae Sportsman of Rothville on June 1, 1958. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his two sons, Gary Cassity of Braymer and Greg Cassity of Rayville; grandson, Dillon Cassity of Braymer; step-grandchildren, Bryan (Kathy) Drew, Bert (Josh) Herring and Kayla Byrd; step-great-grandchildren, Colton, Addison, Dalton, Chase, DeNoble and Jarius; two sisters, Carol McFadden of Hoover, Ala., and Karen Nielson of St. Claire; and daughter-in-law, Linda Cassity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl and Clyde Cassity.

Charles was reared and educated in the area of his birth. He worked in agriculture all his life as a farmer raising cattle and row crops, and working for Farmers Electric for many years until he retired.

His faith meant a lot to him. He was a member of the Christian Union Church in Richmond and a member of the God Squad. He loved to garden and share his produce with others. When he was younger, he enjoyed cutting wood with his boys and his grandson, the outdoors and fishing.

Charles was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials can always be dropped off, or mailed in care of the family, to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main-P. O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and services to follow at 2. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
