Body

Our beloved husband and father, Charles Douglas “Doug” Courtney, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1956, to Charles Jacob and Grethen Marie (Guenther) Courtney in Muscatine, IA.

Doug graduated from John R. Mott High School in Postville, IA, in 1974, and Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, in 1978. During his time at Wartburg, Doug majored in Business Management and Accounting and enjoyed playing offensive line for the Knights. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer for a number of years. Doug enjoyed golfing, a hobby he learned from his dad, and was a member at Shirley Golf Course in Richmond, MO, where he served on the board of directors for 10 years. Doug’s life’s work was in the agriculture industry, retiring from Ray-Carroll County Grain Growers, Inc., in 2016, as Controller, after 25 years of service. In retirement, Doug enjoyed helping with fall harvest for David Minnick Farms. Additionally, he cared for his family and friends more than anything, and our world will be a lot sadder without him.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Nina; children, Jon (Sarah) Courtney of Lee’s Summit, MO, Andrea (Ian) Henderson of Liberty, MO, Stephanie (Shawn) Anderson of Braymer, MO, Craig (Rosanna) Eastley of Lenexa, KS, and Ryan (Natalie) Eastley of Richmond, MO; grandchildren, Avery, Claire, Oliver, Uriah, Eleanor, Sophia, Scarlett, Emerson, and Tucker; and siblings, Sue (Gordon) Johnson, Lori (Bruce) Meyer, Deb (Marty) Larsen, and David (Holly) Courtney.

It was Doug’s wish to be cremated and memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.

A celebration of Doug’s life, with food and refreshments, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, starting at 5 p.m., at the Richmond Shrine Club, 400 Wollard Boulevard, Richmond, MO.  Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO, is in charge of arrangements. Please remember to share your memories of Doug with the family by visiting thurmanfuneralhome.com.
