Buddy Joe Amos, 83, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Cassville.

Bud was born April 20, 1938, to Hobart and Beulah Jean (Coons) Amos in Purdy, where he attended school and graduated in 1956.

He married Dortha Ann Perkins on Jan. 24, 1959, in Cassville. In 1960, they moved to Richmond.

Bud worked at the Ford plant in Claycomo. He later joined American Family Insurance, where he worked as an insurance agent for 43 years until he retired in 2004.

In 1963, Bud and Dortha moved to Excelsior Springs, where they raised three children, Ricky Gene, Janett Lea and Allen Del.

After his retirement, Bud and Dortha moved back to their farm in Purdy, where Bud raised cattle. The Amos farm has been in the family for three generations.

Bud enjoyed farming, attending farm sales and auctions, and was a lifelong Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved spending time with friends. No matter where he lived, he enjoyed gathering with friends over morning coffee. Bud loved his family, and spending time with them and telling stories was important to him.

Bud never met a stranger; and on the rare occasion when he walked into a room not knowing someone, he soon would make a connection.

Bud was a member of the Gunter Methodist Church in Butterfield.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dortha; three children, Rick (Cezanne) of Purdy, Janett (Hahn) of Liberty and Allen (Kerrie) of Excelsior Springs; six grandchildren, Cole, Paige, Alex, Ali, Cody and Bo; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Amos of Battlefield; two sisters, Bobbie Jones of Gravois Mills and Linda Proctor of Arlington, Texas; and many nephews and nieces.

Family, friends and others whose lives had been touched by Bud were invited to a memorial service on Monday, April 26, at Gunter Methodist Church in Butterfield. Visitation began at 9 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 10 a.m.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Fohn Funeral Home of Cassville.
