Bonnie Jean Sloan, 98, of Houston, TX, formerly of Richmond, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, at Houston Hospice in Houston, TX.

Bonnie was born on September 26, 1925, in Vibbard, the daughter of John Frances and Lily “Goldie” (Searcy) Shumate. She was united in marriage to Forrest “Bill” Sloan of Richmond on October 17, 1942; he preceded her in death on September 3, 1991.

Survivors include: her son, Billy G. Sloan of Houston, TX; daughter, Janna Lynn Poskey of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Jeff Sloan (Shane Ford) of San Francisco and Ellen Poskey of Houston, TX; and sister, Billie June Perks of Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Ellen Jane Ogg, brother, Vernon Shumate, and five sisters, Theresa Ferrin, Elsie Lee, Mary Ann Duncan, Alvena West, and Velma Gensler.

Bonnie was reared and educated in the area of her birth. She was primarily a housewife and homemaker but also worked outside of the home for Whitiker Cable and in the Richmond High School cafeteria. Bonnie was strong in faith, creative, kind, curious, loved her family and people, and was an avid animal lover. She was always on the move and loved to travel. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Humane Society of Ray County. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box, 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M., with services to follow at 3:00 P.M.
