Betty was born on June 11, 1945, in Kansas City, the daughter of Glen and Ola Edna (McGaugh) Swafford. She was first united in marriage to Roy Gene Gardner of Plattsburg on April 25, 1962; he preceded her in death on May 23, 1994. She then was united in marriage to Kenneth Forster; they later separated.

Betty leaves behind a son, Roy Gene (Dusty) Gardner II of Henrietta; two daughters, Marian Ann Gardner of Kansas City and Melissa Gray of Camden; 10 grandchildren, William Hanna, Teaka Hanna, Randell Hanna, Andrea Gardner, Roy Gene Gardner III, Jason Gardner, Stedman Barker, Rylen Barker, Audrey Gray (Dustin Wood) and Aubrie Gray; six great-grandchildren, Brayden Lee Barker, Aaliyah Carleton, Kendrick Carleton, Myleigh Gardner, Ace Henry Wood and Cash Lincoln Webb; and a sister, Beverly Ann Dunwoodie of Richmond.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ida Jean Swafford.

Betty loved her family, being around friends, ceramics, crocheting, flowers, watching hummingbirds and her animals. She enjoyed remembering old times with Roy Sr. She loved telling stories and singing “I Love You, A Bushel and a Peck.” Betty was a wonderful, caring and supportive mother and person. She made everyone that came near her feel important and loved. Betty loved life and tried to make each day count to the fullest. P.S. she also liked beer.
