County considers website updates ahead of accessibility deadline

With new accessibility requirements on the horizon, Ray County officials are taking an early look at whether the county’s website is ready.

Midwest Data Center Sales Engineer Gage Salisbury recently met with commissioners to discuss the county’s website and changes that may be needed to meet federal accessibility requirements by April 26, 2028.

Salisbury said he met with County Clerk Heather Maulsby at a recent conference at Lake of the Ozarks, where they discussed website accessibility and Maulsby suggested he speak with commissioners about the issue.

Salisbury noted a member of Midwest Data Center’s website development team reviewed the county’s current website to determine what changes may be necessary and found it to be in a “really good starting place.”

The biggest issue identified was the amount of PDF material on the site, including commission meeting minutes and some older forms. Salisbury explained making those documents accessible could require additional work.
