Classrooms, workplaces and homes became the settings where Ray Countyarea residents watched and listened as the events of Sept. 11, 2001, unfolded.

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, the Richmond News asked community members to share their experiences to help preserve personal accounts of the day.

Alisa Woods had dropped her daughter off at school and gone to visit a local CPA when she saw news coverage following the first plane striking one of the towers.

At the time, Woods recalled, news reports were still questioning whether the crash had been intentional.

By the time she returned home and turned on the television, the second plane had struck the other tower.

“It was apparent our country was under attack,” said Woods.
