RICHMOND – The Show-Me Green sales tax holiday – an optional break from collecting sales taxes on some items – will take place again this year, the City Council decided. The seven-day holiday takes place from April 19 through April 25. Richmond participated in 2020. Excesior Springs did not participate. “The sales tax holiday exempts from state sales tax all retain sales of qualify ing Energy Star-certified new appliances, up to $1,500 per appliance,” city information states. The city agreed, too, to exempt sales tax the city normally collects to help fund services. Among items exempted from the sales tax are clothes washers and dryers, water heaters, stoves, HVAC units and refrigerators. Richmond has participated in the exemption since its inception in 2017. In 2020, 54 cities across the state participated in the program, Department of Revenue information states. There are 801 cities in Missouri, U.S. Census Bureau information states.
