VFW recognizes students, teachers for public service

RICHMOND – Veterans of Foreign Wars Scouter Trish Fields released the names and honors the organization presented this year to Ray County students and teachers. Richmond School District teacher Chelsea Jones won the VFW District 1 Teacher of the Year Award at the elementary school level. She went on to take first place at the state level. District 1 Commander David Klaassen presented her with a trophy and certificate. Two other VFW District 1 Teacher of the Year winners – Orrick Middle School teacher Jayson Moll and Hardin-Central High School teacher Joseph Robinson – received recognition for their accomplishmnets. For students, the VFW conducts a Voice of Democracy competition involving student essays about topics important to democracy. The VFW District 1 winner, Robbie Crippen, went on to take second in state competiton. VFW Post 4398 Commander Larry Brune presented the Scout of the Year award to Garrett Allnutt.
