Vaping increases COVID risk

KANSAS CITY – Vaping is linked to a higher risk of COVID-19 among teens and young adults, based on a study led by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and published online in the Journal of Adolescent Health. This study is the first to examine connections between vaping and COVID-19 using data collected during the pandemic. Young people tested for the virus were five to seven times more likely to be infected if they used e-cigarettes. The risk of experiencing symptoms – such as coughing, fever, tiredness or difficulty breathing – also went up. Vapers were five times more likely to receive a positive diagnosis. If they vaped and smoked within the last 30 days, the positivity rated increased to 6.8 times more likely. “This study just reiterates to us the importance of the work we’re doing to educate our youth community members about th dangers of vaping,” Kara White said.
