A piece of art during its time finds itself inside the Ray County Museum. An 1870s Knabe Square Grand piano was donated to the museum this past month from Tim and Maria Twyman of Odessa, according to Ray County Museum Director Cathy Gottsch. “We are getting it tuned up and maybe we can have someone play it for special occasions or around Christmas time,” said Gottsch. The piano is believed to have been in the infamous Richmond Hotel in the 1800s before the hotel took up in flames. The hotel was located on 1908 southeast corner of downtown Richmond. “It was the best hotel west of Mississippi,” said Gottsch. “Now we house its 1870s grand square piano.” About Square Grands Square Grands are an important part of musical history.
