Two RHS FFA students fair-prepped

Although the Ray County Fair ended this week, Richmond High School (RHS) Future Farmers of America (FFA) prepared vigorously for months prior to the events. Two RHS seniors, FFA President Allison Coats and FFA student Taylor McGlothin, shared their preparation processes. “I attended the county fair to show my pig, two Simmental heifers and one bull,” said Coats. “I hope to qualify for the auction with my pig.” McGlothin planned to show her Hereford cattle, ham and bacon. “I had my ham cure for about five months and then I worked with my show cattle and took them to national and county fairs,” said McGlothin. As far as prepping for the events, Coats said she plans far ahead of time. “My preparations begin at the first of each year when I purchase my livestock. I show my cattle on the county, state and national levels,” she stated. “To compete at that level, I spend at least two hours a day working with my heifers.” Each senior noted their favorite parts about attending the local…
