Two century-long Ray County farms have been awarded the Missouri Century Farm Families Award. The Thurman-Mitchell Family Farm and W. Frazer and Patricia C. Letzig received the award. The University of Missouri (MU) Extension and the Missouri Farm Bureau partnered to award the two farm families. Jim Proffitt represented the Missouri Farm Bureau and Katie Nerner represented the MU Extension during the presentation. “The Century Farm Award is a great partnership between the MU Extension and the Farm Bureau. It (has) been around for quite some time and it is just a nice way to honor families that have been farming in our rural communities for 100 years or more. And it is a milestone; (it) tells the story of the farmers’ perseverance and the legacies that they’ve built,” said Nerner.
