Teen joins youth team
RICHMOND – Richmond High School senior Joseph Martin, 17, Richmond, underwent a two-day orientation as a member of the American Battlefield Trust’s Youth Leadership Team, or YLT.
Martin and 13 other teens will spend the next year engaged in an advocacy campaign to bring historic preservation, education and heritage tourism initiatives to his community.
Martin will pursue the creation of a middle school curriculum that explores the Kansas-Missouri Border War of the 1850s through a set of 25-30 profiles – individuals that experienced the complex, multi-year conflict. He hopes this character-based learning will drive personal connections to local history.
