Summer school coming in July

RICHMOND – Summer school will not happen in June as first planned, but rather July, acting Richmond School District Superintendent Jim Finley said. “Our plan is to have in-person summer school, and we’ll make adjustments as required going forward,” he said. The proposed dates are July 13 through 31, Finley said May 14. In-person learning is a summer school plan, not a guarantee. “If guidelines come out to prevent that, we’re going to have to look at virtual summer school,” he said. Virtual summer school would involve learning via the internet, rather than in classrooms. Either way, the primary focus of summer school will be “credit recovery,” which allows students who did poorly during the regular school session to make up a class during summer school. Some students may attend summer school simply to learn more, versus wanting to improve a grade, Finley said. “We are still planning on having an ‘enrichment-type’ summer school, as we have had in the past,” he said.
