RICHMOND – Ray County Sheriff Garry Bush said his road patrol deputies could not get gasoline for their patrol cars because County Clerk Glenda Powell had failed to pay the bill. “We had four cars that were out of gas,” Bush said. Powell took responsibility for the error. She said the matter slipped through the cracks in the midst of this election year – she is the county’s chief election officer. Her office has been dealing with questions from the public about the potential for protestors at the polls and safe voting during the coronavirus. Powell she did not recieve notice from the company that is supposed to request payment for the Sheriff Office’s gas use. “They didn’t send us a bill,” she said. Bush said he learned about the issue when a deputy went to Georgia to pick up an inmate, stopped for gas and found his credit card would not work.
