School district deals with food, staffing issues
RICHMOND – The Richmond School District is dealing with shortages of food and teachers, nothing too serious, but a concern, Superintendent Greg Darling said.

The food shortage resulted from too few truck drivers to make timely deliveries, something familiar to school districts metrowide, he said.
“We’ve had a little bit of shortage but we had enough surplus to backfill,” Darling said Oct. 1.
Mostly, the issue has resulted in lastminute menu changes, he said.
“Maybe we’ll have something today, and about three-quarters of the way, we’ll have to substitute,” Darling said.
Other metro area districts have experienced more serious food issues.
“Some of the schools in Kansas City just don’t have any food, period,” Darling said. “One of the Kansas City ‘sups’ was talking to me, and he said, ‘You know, they told me to go to Sam’s. Well, I have 4,500 kids. How am I going to get enough food out of Sam’s Club or Cosco? What are they thinking or whatever?’ …
