Richmond Rotary marks 25 years of global shoe drive impact
A decades-long effort by the Richmond Rotary Club is continuing to make a global impact, as the organization marks 25 years of collecting shoes for children in need.
The effort is part of the “Shoes for Orphan Souls” project, a partnership between Rotary District 6040 and Buckner International that has spanned 25 years. Through the program, Rotary clubs across the district collect new shoes, socks and monetary donations, which are then shipped to a humanitarian aid warehouse in the Dallas, Texas, area before being distributed to orphanages and vulnerable children around the world.
The initiative brings together 51 clubs in north and north-central Missouri, each contributing to a shared goal of meeting critical needs for children who often lack basic necessities.
Richmond’s role in the effort has remained consistent since the project began, with the local Rotary club participating in each of the past 25 years.
