Richmond highlights the power of parks
Richmond is recognizing National Park and Recreation Month this July by highlighting the value of parks, programs and public spaces throughout the community.
Established by the National Recreation and Park Association, National Park and Recreation Month celebrates the positive impact parks and recreation have on communities across the country. This year’s theme, “The Power of Parks and Recreation,” highlights the role parks play in fostering connection, health and community, something Richmond Parks and Recreation Director Haley Williams said is evident throughout the city.
Williams explained parks and recreation provide opportunities for residents of all ages to stay active, improve their physical health and find relief from the stresses of everyday life. Beyond the physical benefits, she said parks also offer spaces where people can connect with others and simply enjoy being outdoors.
