Residents seek relief from dust, deteriorating street

A petition seeking improvements to a section of 84th Street has been submitted to Ray County officials after residents raised concerns about worsening road conditions and excessive dust. The petition was presented during public comment at a recent commissioner’s meeting by Michael Vassmer, who asked officials to consider improvements to the section of 84th Street between South Point Drive and Highway 210. According to Vassmer, the section of roadway was chip and seal when he moved to the area in 1999 but has gradually deteriorated into gravel over the years. He said approximately 21 residences are located along that portion of 84th Street, where traffic creates what he described as “pretty unbearable” dust during dry conditions.
