A Phelps County Jail escapee — who was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to conspiracy to murder a Border Patrol officer, as well as two felony charges in Ray County — has been located and taken into custody. Jonathan S. O’Dell, 33, was taken into custody by the Ray County Sheriff’s Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Missouri State Highway Patrol around 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. Late on Sept. 29 Phelps County Jail inmates O’Dell and Steven Timothy Scott escaped. Scott turned himself in, but O’Dell went on the run. Ray County Deputy Dustin Royse was in pursuit of the escapee on Bollinger Road and V Hwy, where Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers blocked the road with his truck.
