Ray 911 board considers replacing century-old building

RICHMOND – The 911 Dispatch Board might move from downtown to a site on Missouri Highway 210, west of town. The board last month came under fire when Sheriff Scott Childers questioned the board’s spending priorities. “We were chastised for putting a roof on the building that we are in,” board President Paul Harris said. Maintenance is a necessary use for board tax money, Harris said. “You’ve got to have a building to house your equipment in and have a place to operate out of. If your roof is leaking, you don’t just ignore it,” he said. Over the past seven years, Harris said, keeping the 911 building operational has cost about $300,000. “The building’s well over 100 years old. It has severe structural issues,” he said after the January meeting. “We as a board are looking, long term, to move to another facility that we won’t have those issues with, that is more secure, is better designed for what it’s used for, and I mean that’s what we’re planning to use the tax dollars for.” …
