Prosecution witness a no show, bond reduced

A Hardin man was granted a bond reduction after the prosecution requested his preliminary hearing be continued. Joseph D. L. Grieme, 23, is facing two felony charges of first-degree domestic assault and abuse or neglect of a child, no sexual contact. Grieme was in court last week for a preliminary hearing with Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Lori J. Baskins presiding when the prosecutor’s office requested a continuance. “Our witness is not here, so we are requesting a continuance,” said Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Tara Medlin. Grieme, along with his public defender, Rebecca M. Abeln, objected to the request. “If the court agrees to a continuance, we request an ROR (release on recognizance) bond,” Abeln said. Medlin opposed allowing Grieme’s release on his own recognizance due to prior incidents of him failing to appear in court, but was not opposed to the bond being amended.
