Parson, Galloway vary in approach to wearing COVID-19 safety masks

SEDALIA - Gov. Mike Parson sounded supportive of the majority of roughly 100 people who gathered under a pavilion, many standing or sitting elbow to elbow, and choosing not to wear face masks or to practice social distancing at the Missouri State Fair on Aug. 13. When asked at a press conference about the lack of COVID-19 prevention measures being taken by the crowd to his right, Parson took a position in support of personal rather than social responsibility. “When it comes to the personal hygiene, I think everybody in here knows how important that is, and then to wear a mask. We've always suggested, ‘Wear a mask. If you feel comfortable, wear a mask,’” Parson said. “People have the ability to make those choices. ... They understand what the risks are for their families, for their children, and you have to let people understand that they have to have that personal responsibility.
