Oscar ceremonies seem short compared to opening of NFL draft

Reflecting on the first round of this year’s NFL draft, I take back everything negative I have ever said, written and/or thought about the annual Academy Awards telecasts. Well, everything except the tiresome political grandstanding during acceptance speeches. As pro football fans reading this in Ray and Clay counties (and beyond) might recall, the start time for the first round of the draft was 7 p.m. Central Daylight Time April 23. As fans also might recall, the Chiefs were slated to pick 32nd, or last, that night. I had no desire to sit through hours of picks and droning draft analysis to see who my beloved football team would pick. Thus, I figured I would check in late that night for my Chiefs draft news. Instead, I attended to more important matters. I mowed some of my ginormous yard with my wonderful push-reel lawnmower. In doing so, I developed my muscles to prep for walking soccer and my triumphant return to pickleball after the pandemic-induced social distancing guidelines…
