LIBERTY – November elections will bring competition for seats in Ray and Clay counties, but the August primaries produced little in-party competition – no races in Ray County and three races affecting eastern Clay County. Three people sought the seat Clay County Eastern Commissioner Luann Ridgeway is vacating. County Clerk Megan Thompson won with 61.1% of the vote, thanked the public, commended opponents and pledged to end “corruption from the current commission.” A petition drive led Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway to audit the county, but the commission has gone to court to block Galloway from looking at the commission’s closed-door-meeting records. “It’s just a mess up there and we deserve better from our county government,” Thompson said, adding that – after soaking her feet and collecting her political signs – she will announce what she would do as a commissioner. “We have a couple plans to put into place within the first 30 days.” To realize those plans, Thompson first must…
