Mushroom Festival may be replaced with fall festival

All of that is over. The festival is kaput, Lamar announced late last week. But chamber President Felicia Farabee said she is interested in trying an alternative. “It’s not going to be able to happen in June,” she said. “We’re hoping, when the country opens back up, that we may be able to put something together this fall.” The idea is a hope, not a guarantee, and would not be the Mushroom Festival, but something fun, Farabee said. “There’s a lot of variables with that,” she said, including a potential for fewer attractions, such as the carnival, which must be booked far in advance. Just the same, having a community event in the fall is an option worth pursuing, Farabee said. “We’re really looking at having some kind of a welcome-back party or something,” she said.
