More precious than gold
Gold is mentioned in the Bible more than any other metal. It is mentioned in the description of the location of the Garden of Eden. It was offered to Jesus as one of the gifts of the Wise Men. And the Apostle Peter mentions gold three times in I Peter, his first epistle.
In chapter one of I Peter, the apostle states faith in Jesus Christ is more precious than gold. There is one simple reason for this: gold, although it is very durable, is perishable; faith in Jesus is not. Gold will perish along with all the other elements of this world when Jesus returns for Judgment Day. Faith in Jesus gives us a heavenly inheritance that is “imperishable, undefiled and unfading.” (I Peter 1:4) It’s easy to see why people put their trust in gold. Gold makes people feel important. Gold makes people feel confident. Gold is beautiful, precious and rare. The more gold a person has, the better they feel. But gold will perish. What happens to a person’s faith when the thing they were trusting in perishes…
