Locals attend Youth Leadership Day

Richmond High School FFA students recently joined more than 330 students at the state Capitol as a part of Missouri Farm Bureau’s (MOFB) Youth Leadership Day. Ray County students attending included Hardin-Central students Sophie Dial and Kadence Quick, and Richmond students Allison Coats, Grace Bozarth and Jeremiah Silkwood. Following an introduction from MOFB President Garrett Hawkins, the students could be found with their legislators, invited into the side galleries while the House was in session or visiting with their representatives and senators in the hallways. “My favorite part was visiting the capital and being able to talk with our representatives about the legislation affecting our farmers. This helped me understand the importance our legislatures have on our farmers,” said Coats, who is President of the RHS FFA. “The legislators help protect the farmer’s livelihood and advocate for their rights to the land and its use.
