Local nonprofit, vet brings pet care to underserved area
A Richmond-based nonprofit brought free veterinary services directly to Hideaway Lakes, working to improve animal health in a community where access to care can be limited.
The clinic, organized by Operation Snip ‘Em in partnership with Ray County Animal Hospital veterinarian Dr. Cathy Harris, was designed to remove common barriers such as cost and transportation by bringing services directly into the community. Organizers said the effort was part of a broader push to reach pet owners who may not otherwise be able to access routine veterinary care, while also addressing concerns about unvaccinated animals in the area.
Founder AmyPearson emphasized the partnership was critical to the effort, describing Harris as a strong supporter of the program who has performed numerous Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) procedures to help reduce the feral and community cat population.
