Hardin resident and veteran Ora Eaton, 75, was invited to join the Sept. 27 Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Honor Flight Network of Kansas City offered this opportunity free of charge. Honor Flights are an opportunity to honor and thank Americans who secured our freedom by bringing them to the nation’s capital to see the memorials that commemorate their service, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. This trip included dinner, a welcome ceremony, and visits to several memorials, and special recognition for participants’ Each honoree has a specific “guardian,” a volunteer who takes care of each veteran on the trip; Eaton’s guardian, Richmond resident Jeff Mc-Gill. “I served in the army. Personally, my favorite part was the thrill of looking at all the memorials,” said Eaton. “When you go around and see the monuments, you realize how many people sacrifice their lives for this country.” Eaton said there is a sense of brotherhood and connection between the veterans on the flight…
