For some, giving back is a gift, for others, it’s a mission. D and S Guns LLC, a local business, donated a rifle to Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s (CCSO) seventh K-9 Golf Tournament.

“We love helping our first responders. We love to try to do anything we can,” stated Sarah Kelley, owner of D and S Guns LLC.

The golf tournament is a fundraising event to sustain the health and safety of CCSO current K-9 Unit members and the purchase of future canines. CCSO uses K9 teams to locate missing people, find evidence, locate dangerous drugs and assist other law enforcement agencies.

Each canine costs from $12,000 to $13,000 and no tax dollars are used for these purchases. All funds are raised from this tournament and other donations.

“The money raised at this tournament will go to purchasing a new dog in the fall, bringing us to a total of five patrol K9’s. This does not include our School Resource K9 and Critical Incident Response K9,” CCSO Public Relations Manager Sarah Boyd said.

The tournament included a silent auction, lunch, contests and prizes that were donated by other businesses. The event was sold out with 30, four-person teams and took place June 30 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex.
