Leaders OK $150k to do city repairs

RICHMOND – Various repairs costing $146,687 overall, and divided among three companies, have received City Council approval. The plan to improve the two Maurice Roberts Park tennis courts at 819 E. Main St. will cost $52,000, accounting for more than half the total repair outlay. The Richmond School District and the community at large use the courts. “When you go over to the tennis courts, you can see the cracks are sinking in, which they hold ‘birdbaths.’ So, for tennis players, that’s really extremely annoying due to the fact that you go to hit a ball and it hits a divot and goes the other way,” City Manager Tonya Willim said. “We’re actually going to do a total resurface overlay on both of those tennis courts. They’ll be able to raise up each one of the birdbaths to cover those.” In addition, all cracks will be injected with a sealer, she said. “There will be a consistent overlay to make it more smooth,” Willim said.
