Kiwanis celebrates 100 years

The Richmond Kiwanis Club is celebrating its 100-year anniversary by making a donation, sponsoring a raffle and hosting a party – and the public is invited to participate in all three activities. “We’re dedicated to serving the youths of Ray County, and this anniversary year gives us three special ways to meet that goal,” said Richmond Kiwanis President Maxine Moore. The club is making a donation to Richmond’s Hamann Park, Moore said. Club members have purchased two outdoor musical instruments, a “glockenspiel” and a “rockin’” drum panel. The instruments, suitable for children 2-12 years old, are to be installed this fall, as the club marks its anniversary. The glockenspiel is a percussion instrument consisting of pitched aluminum or steel bars arranged in a keyboard layout. It is played by striking the bars with mallets, often made of a hard material such as metal or plastic.
