Jail cell walls need improvements

The Ray County Commissioners have unanimously approved a bid to stabilize walls inside Ray County Jail cells. Safety concerns are raised due to multiple jail cells having walls that are “deteriorating and wobbly,” according to Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers. “We have thin metal walls and they are wobbly. If enough inmates pushed on them they could push them down, so we’ve got to figure out how to stabilize those walls,” said Childers. Stockton Builders and Remodeling of Orrick submitted a $1,000 bid for the job, said Ray County City Clerk Heather Graff-Maulsby. Repairs would be paid through the commissioners Capital Improvements Fund. “Their bid is to reattach the wall between cells to the floor through an angle iron base to concrete and install concrete anchors – eight per side of the wall,” she said.
