Issues with contractors discussed
Damages caused by the installation of fiber cables in rural areas were discussed during a recent Ray County Planning and Zoning Board meeting.
Attending the meeting were Ray County Planning and Zoning Assistant Paula Patchett, Mike Daniel, Spectrum Construction Manager; Rob Knight, Cat 5 Director of Construction; Damon Calvert,
Co-Owner of On Track Resources (OTR); and representatives from several Ray County special road districts.
Installation issues began toward the end of 2023, with the main complaints stemming from work completed by Cat 5 subcontractors.
“The main complaints were cutting through or damaging county culverts and trenching across county roads when boring under was required, ruining the integrity of the roads,” said Patchett. “There were also issues of fiber lines being laid directly off the county road instead of in the back of the right-of-way, water main breaks, cut phone lines and large quantities of rock being left in property owners’ yards and county rightof…
