Humane society talks pets as gifts and updates

As the holiday season rolls around and Christmas presents begin appearing under the tree, the Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) wants to remind everyone that dogs and cats are not just easy gifts for the holidays. The holiday season can cause stress, anxiety, and depression for some. Studies have shown around 64% of people facing challenges with their mental health report holidays make their conditions worse, according to a National Alliance on Mental Illness study. On another note, studies have shown owning a pet can reduce stress, depression, and anxiety symptoms, explained HSRC volunteer Madeline Hart. “Before you add a new family member to the mix – we at HSRC implore you to consider that many pets have life spans of up to 15 years. They will love and commit to you for that long. Can you do the same?
