High schoolers begin hybrid classes
RICHMOND – Richmond High School students return partially to in-classroom learning Thursday using a hybrid model that also employs online learning.
School leaders closed the school due to COVID-19 on Oct. 12. At that time, more than half of the students had either tested positive or had been quarantined. Administrators had considered keeping the school closed until after Thanksgiving.
The quicker reopening followed a decline in virus cases at the school, Superintendent Greg Darling said by phone Monday.
“Our cases have gone down for students and staff at the high school,” he said. “Since the numbers have gone down so much, the kids need to be back in school in a safe, educational environment.”
Principal Justin Remington stated fewer students will be in classrooms to allow for social separation.
“Returning in the hybrid model will reduce class sizes so social distancing can occur, therefore reducing the potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 for students and staff,” he stated.
