An “ahhh-inspiring” Halloween haunted house greeted trick-or-treaters on Halloween at the Wilson residence. “There are seven scenes,” Derrick Wilson said while standing on the stairway leading to those seven hells at 408 S. Thornton St. All right. Not quite Dante’s “Inferno” in terms of scope. But if Father Dante, who lived in the late 1200s and early 1300s, had awakened inside any of those imaginatively appointed haunted chambers, then he likely would have needed a change of robes. The haunted house included several animatronic characters, among them a life-size mad doctor and a creepy child with lighted eyes on a rocking horse in a “playroom.” Creating the haunted house, with help from Kenny Thompson, took three months. “My sisters aren’t taking my (14) nieces and nephews around for Halloween and I wanted them to have the experience, and I kind of went over the top this year,” Wilson said.
