Newly painted crosswalks were a topic of discussion for the Richmond City Council, who unanimously approved reallocating $15,000 to use on additional thermo crosswalks. “Thermoplasty are the little beads of glass. They can withstand the plow season. For example, for the crosswalk we did on Thornton and South Streets, the crosswalk is about four-five years old and looks good,” said Richmond City Administrator Tonya Willim. Council reallocated funds for “zebra” crosswalks for the thermoplastic, which comes in sheets and is applied with heat. “This will be on top of what we are being charged,” said Willim. “We need to be using ‘zebra’ crosswalks and getting away from the standard parallel markings.” The crosswalks should be as wide or wider than the walkway it connects to.
