Elementary teacher receives grant
Sunrise Elementary music teacher Kaelyn Rich, a recent grant recipient, is excited for the upcoming school year to begin. Rich received the $60 grant from Western Governors University (WGU) Midwest Regional Manager Daniel Avegalio.
“When I found out, I was excited. I had not heard anything for a long time but when I was contacted, I could not believe it,” said the music teacher.
In the classroom, Rich uses skills students develop in playing music and using instruments. She stated that when she applied for the grant, her goal was to purchase a new speaker. Although it wouldn’t take much money it would be better than her current technology, which left students guessing because students couldn’t hear.
“We play instruments or sing along with recordings and do music play-along. Doing this helps students with tracking, rhythm and feeling the beat, among many other things. Students couldn’t hear and volume was an issue,” she said. “A new speaker would solve that problem.”
