Eighth-grade students receive recognition
RICHMOND – Their transition celebration to mark graduation from Richmond Middle School eighth-graders to “first years” at the high school did not go as planned, but school officials showed they care for the students.
“We’re going to divide up and take these (signs) through town and put them up in the yards for kids,” Principal Jana Fleckenstine said while standing beside a van full of signs Saturday.
Participants grabbed stacks of signs from the van. They drove vehicles to eighth-graders’ houses.
“We have 114 that we’ll deliver to all of the eighth-graders,” Fleckenstine said.
The middle school usually does a lot more to recognize the grads, she said.
“We have a formal celebration for the eighth-graders at the end of the year, and since we couldn’t do that because of the COVID, we’re doing this,” she said.
Teacher Sara Dalle – who has taught eighth-graders for eight years in Richmond – said she wanted to show appreciation for what she called a great group of students.
